DFO's 9/6 trip to the Ken Caryl and vicinity had a nice time afield. At open space areas of Ken Caryl Ranch (*no public access, but check for upcoming DFO field trips as opportunities to visit)* we had *Common Poorwills* calling before sunrise, 11 *Rock Wrens* in their favored hogback slope setting, accented with *Sage Thrashers*, *Green-tailed Towhees*, *Vesper Sparrows*, dueling *Say's Phoebes* and more. 2-3 *Steller's Jays* at the crest of the Dakota Hogback near Massey Draw were out of habitat and suggested some movement (maybe just local). A weedy, sunflower/willow patch near Massey Draw had a female *Orchard Oriole *amid lots of goldfinches and others. Other highlights were *Eastern Kingbird*, *Red-naped Sapsucker*, and *Mountain Bluebird*.
What was lacking for the morning was warblers (just 2-3 Wilson's and 2 Audubon's noted), Spizella sparrows (1 Clay-colored was all we had), flycatchers other than Say's, vireos, buntings (1), and tanagers (1).
