This morning at the Ridgway State Park fall banding station, bander Linnea
Rowse banded a female hatch year Golden-winged Warbler! It was a great find
for those of us volunteering today.

Linnea is has studied these birds extensively and it was a surprise to net
one so far west. A look at E-bird shows this the farthest west sighting in
CO. There are other recorded sightings west of Colorado; however, they are
not common.

RIdgway State Park is located on U.S. Route 550 south of Montrose and north
of Ridgway proper. The banding station is open to the public Saturday,
September 9, from 8:30 to 11:00 am or so. The banding station is at the
farthest south Dallas Creek entrance. Enter the park, turn left and drive
south to the roundabout for parking. The station is located on the west
side of the bridge. IF YOU VISIT, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE NET LANES. A park
pass is required (either annual or day pass).

The station is closed Sunday.

The station is open to school children/field trips next week Monday through
Friday mornings. The station closes next Friday as Linnea will be traveling
to another Western Slope station. Or course, the birds could be anywhere
and this bird may be gone tomorrow ;-)
