I went over to Golden Ponds today hoping to catch any late migrants or birds just starting migration. Here were the highlights-
Possible Cackling Goose: in a flock Canada Geese looked much smaller as it flew over but I couldn't refind it in any of the ponds. Wood Duck: Female in the private lake Turkey Vulture(2) probably the last ones ill see this year. Broad Winged Hawk: a quick flyover juvenile. I was hoping it would kettle or circle around for a bit, but it seemed to be on a mission and didn't stick around long. Sora: continuing from the reeds next to the bike path. Sandhill Crane: about 20 flying over, but this was just an estimate as they were pretty high up. Possibly more like 25 or even 30. Mountain Chickadee(4) seem to be hanging around a bit lower for a while now. Townsends Solitare: Heard calling only I was hoping to catch some interesting Warblers or Flycatchers, but it was really quite. I was only able to find about 10 YRWA, 2 OCWA, 1 WIWA and 0 empids. White throated Sparrow:a juvenile staying low with a small flock of White Crowned Sparrows. Lincolns Sparrow(1) possibly the last one I'll se this year.
