The featured speakers for November 27 Denver Field Ornithologists (DFO) meeting
will be Max Ciaglo and Ross Calhoun, a research duo that have been studying
Flammulated Owl ecology since 2013.Working with Colorado College and Dr. Brian
Linkhart, Ciaglo and Calhoun conducted research within a well-studied Flam
breeding site in central Colorado. Through the course of their study they
observed broad movements by fledglings and adult owls, yearly fidelity to
pre-migratory sites, and recaptures that suggest the owls may be engaging in
prospecting behavior to identify potential breeding territories for the
following year--a rare discovery in the raptor community! Ciaglo and Calhoun
are now working with the University of Colorado Denver and the Colorado Field
Ornithologists to investigate the potential of Stable Isotope Analysis (SIA) to
further inform their research. DFO meeting is held at 7:30 pm.at Denver Museum
of Nature & Science. Free and open to the public. Mary C Burger
