On Tuesday (3.13), while waiting for a bus in Greenwood Village (Arapahoe), I watched a crow try to extract a small branch from a parking lot tree. It inspected several bits of springy growth before settling on one, clipping it, and then preceding to get that clipped branch stuck in a tangle of twigs above it. It took a mighty effort to free the branch, but the crow eventually did. It then seemed to swing the branch triumphantly, side to side, until its apparent mate joined it. It then flew off, into the nearby conifer where I think they're trying to nest. Today, I watched a House Finch inspecting my patio light for a time, as its mate looked on. (I've already forgotten whether the male inspected the light while the female watched or vice versa.) I thought it might be looking for a nesting spot.
