Day started busier than most this season, but then fell off quickly. Breakdown of the 12 new birds for the day plus the 2 nice returns from prior years, along with a few notes:
Morning Dove 1 House Wren 7 (These guys are very active and noisy, and seem to be being caught in fairly typical numbers now) Yellow-breasted Chat 1 (FOS and a returning bird that was banded in 2015, then recaught in 2016 but not in 2017) Spotted Towhee 1 (a returning bird banded in 2016 and recaught in 2017) Song Sparrow 2 Lincoln's Sparrow 1 White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 1 Come visit! Station is open daily, weather permitting, through the end of May, except for May 10-12 and 28. We open nets about 6:30 and close around noon. If you would like to visit on a weekend, you must pre-register - go to the Audubon Society of Greater Denver website. Perhaps the best time for birders to visit is early in the morning during the week - fewer people and more birds! (School groups arrive each day between 9:30 and 10:30.)
