Yesterday morning the turmoil all around disappeared for a few brief minutes when I heard the call of a Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Called it twice and watched as it flew over my head and landed in a tree behind me...
In the Midwest these birds are called Rain Crows. This one conjured a wonderful thunderstorm to help fight the Spring Fire! 😉 The fire is now 35% contained, mandatory evacuations have been lifted for County Road 360 and adjacent areas...people are smiling and laughing for the first time since we arrived home from Uganda early afternoon on Monday! You can feel the relief and weight that has been lifted! The Cuckoo returned this morning and I was finally able to capture my favorite part of its call...have tried unsuccessfully so many times before...the low, quiet "purrrrr" at the very end. Have tried to upload a video to CFO Facebook and my own Facebook page. if it is successful, listen very carefully for it. Let us hope it portends more rain!
