Thanks so much to JoAnn Hackos for reminding us that we should take a 
little side trip out of Durango so see the Acorn Woodpeckers. 4 individuals 
were present on July 23, late afternoon. Just as interesting was the 
riddled pattern on that tall dead tree. 

This was a Colorado life bird for me. I remember years and years ago, 
driving to Raton, New Mexico and then cutting back to Lake Dorothy in 
Colorado. We drove down twice and missed seeing the Acorn Woodpeckers both 
times.
