The second year Zone-tailed Hawk appeared at the usual spot near Higbee
from about 8:30-8:45 this morning. Other people will have to say whether it
was seen after that. It flew in low from the southwest, as though it had
been roosting in the cottonwoods along the stream, and made a few passes
along the ridgeline. This is 3.5 miles west of the highway, where a single
power line crosses the road. Painted Bunting, Summer Tanager, Greater
Roadrunner, and Yellow-billed Cuckoo were all seen from that spot this
morning.

Afterwards I continued east. There was an Olive-sided Flycatcher and
another roadrunner at Ft. Lyon St. Wildlife Easement. Three Neotropic
Cormorants were at the pond in the southeast corner of NeeNoshe. A nearly
adult Lesser Black-backed Gull was at Neeskah Reservoir, and a Tricolored
Heron was at Thurston Reservoir.

It's so much fun down here, I decided to stay for a second night!
