Hey COBirders, Another damp, low-ceiling, breezy day, at Clear Spring Ranch, and another day of overwhelming numbers of Spizella sparrows.
Yesterday was just too much, so I planned to not even open some of the nets that are directly in the “line-of-fire” of the feeding sparrows. So, of course, they were piled into the willows while I was opening nets, and flying in like machine-gun fire, even when some nets were partially opened. Still overwhelming! But if I had opened the other nets, I think I would have caught well over 200 sparrows today. 140 birds today. So much for “taking it easy”! As it was… Chipping Sparrows - 97 Clay-colored Sparrows - 25 Brewer’s Sparrow - 1 Lincoln’s Sparrows - 2 Lark Sparrows - 5 Orange-crowned Warbler - 1 Yellow Warbler - 3 Wilson’s Warbler - 5 Warbling Vireo (juv) - 1 Again, not so much diversity, just lots of sparrows! Have a birdy day, Steve Brown Colo Spgs -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds" group.
