The morning was nice and cool until about 9:30, when the temp and humidity seemed to soar. Our first run was small but a lovely mix of species - three warbler species, 2 wren species, Chipping Sparrow, Downy Woodpecker and Dusky Flycatcher. Our last run was 6 Wilson's. Overall numbers down significantly from recent days; only 28 birds banded:
Downy Woodpecker 1 Western Wood-pewee 1 Dusky Flycatcher 1 House Wren 2 Marsh Wren 1 (this was our second MAWR of the season; raising the total caught at Barr in 31 years from 6 to 8!) Orange-crowned Warbler 1 Yellow Warbler 2 Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 3 MacGillivray's Warbler 1 Wilson's Warbler 12 Chipping Sparrow 2 Song Sparrow 1 We are open 6 days a week (closed Monday), weather permitting through October 14. We are opening nets at 6:30 and should have birds back at the station by 7:15. We will close most days by about 11:30, earlier this week because of the heat. School groups arrive most weekdays at about 9:30. The best time to visit (fewest people, most birds) is before 9:30 weekdays and Sundays. Come visit!
