We tallied 83 species, 54,310 individual birds -- averages for the 31 counts: 83 and 38,809.New to the count: Lark Sparrow, seen at Rocky Mtn. Arsenal NWR.Numbers above average: Canada & Cackling Geese 40,656 cf. 22,985 N. Shoveler 3184 vs. 2122 ave. Hooded Meranser 197 cf. 111 Blue Jay - 65 vs. 50 Horned Lark - 214 vs. 155 Bushtit - 82 vs 29 White-breasted Nuthatch - 39 vs. 14: we had 0-4 on the first 11 counts Townsend's Solitaire - 23 vs 15 Numbers below average All ducks except Shoveler Am.Coot - 57 vs/ 112 Ring-billed Gull - 1059 - 1832 Downy WP - 636 / 54 N. Flicker - 130 / 255 Magpie - 324 / 755 Crow - 306 / 805 Starling - 573 - 5378 (!) Dark-eyed Junco - 252 / 494 House Finch - 421 /1459 House Sparrow - 216 / 1730 We missed 3 species for the first time: Sharp-shinned Hawk, Pheasant, & Herring Gull. Hugh Kingery
