Diane Dermer and I went to look for the Hooded Warbler in Last Chance,
Washington County[at the intersection of Highway 71 and highway 36, on 4/30.
Did not see the Hooded Warbler. It rained the whole time and the few birds we
saw were looking for food nonstop. West of Last Chance a Golden Eagle sat on a
bank next to the highway. Right next to Last Chance we watched 2, Loggerhead
Shrikes perched on a fence, trying to get insects in the grass. We watched for
45 minutes, and they both seemed to no success.

At the tiny pond in Last Chance, was 1, NORTHERN WARTERTHRUSH [my first of
the season]. It was flipping leaves over frantically, looking for food. Near
the Waterthrush were 7, Yellow-rumped Warblers, both Myrtle and Audubon's. One
Orange-crowned Warbler and a Cedar Waxwing were present also. Many
White-crowned Sparrows called. 2, Brown-headed Cowbirds were present. One Gray
Catbird was in the tangles. Barn Swallows were dashing in and out of one of the
old buildings. A Towhee was hiding so that all I could see was the bird's black
tail and black head. I presume Spotted. Other than these mentioned birds, the
regulars were present

Raptors seen this day were pretty wet, including several Swainson's.

In this area it looked very green and hopefully wildflowers will appear.

Happy Birding!!
