Not as busy as yesterday, but plenty to keep us going and lots of species. Best bird of the day was the first Yellow Warbler of the year that is on our longevity chart - 2560-93331 was banded as an adult in 2013, so he is at least 8 years old; we have caught him every year. Here's the breakdown of today's 61 new birds:
Dusky Flycatcher 5 Hammond's Flycatcher 1 Black-capped Chickadee 2 new, 1 banded 2017 White-breasted Nuthatch 1 House Wren 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 7 (One of many species that appears to have had a great year) Hermit Thrush 1 Orange-crowned Warbler 3 Virginia's Warbler 2 Yellow Warbler 2 new, 1 banded 2013, 1 banded 2015 Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 4 Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon 22 Yellow-rumped Warbler, Intergrade 1 MacGillivray's Warbler 1 Common Yellowthroat 1 Spotted Towhee 1 new, 1 banded 2018 Lincoln's Sparrow 1 Bullock's Oriole 1 (FOS) We will be open daily, WEATHER PERMITTING, through May 31, except for Memorial Day. We are opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by 7:15. We aim to close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very windy. Registration is required for all weekend visitors; see the Denver Audubon website to sign up. Individuals may visit weekdays without registering before the school groups arrive, which is usually around 10 a.m. Come visit!
