Hi all:
To my eyes, Roger Linfield's Silverton owl is a Flamm.  The small ear tufts,
the brown racing stripe on the scapulars, and the brown tones to the face all
point in that direction.  However, I have to say that I was convinced that it
was a Flamm before I saw the photo, as there are no records of Western
Screech-Owl from the county and the species is quite rare that high in
elevation.  Flamm probably breeds in the county in small numbers, but the main
argument is that the species is a neotropical migrant and is much more likely
to show up out of place at Silverton than is the relatively sedentary Western
Screech-Owl.  At least, that's my take on the topic.
Good job, Roger.
Enjoy,
Tony
