Just returned (2:30 Saturday) from Lagerman Reservoir in Longmont. Some unexpected sightings on the southern shoreline including five Marbled Godwit, seventeen Wilson's Phalarope, two Northern Pintail, and an adult non-breeding Black Tern.
The Tern was perched on an exposed stump just off the southern shore for at least 45 minutes. It took to the air briefly, along with many other birds/ducks, when a Bald Eagle flew over. If anyone is headed there yet today, set up your scope at the locked gate just past the picnic pavilion. Search due south directly across the lake near the shoreline and look for an exposed stump in the water. That was its perch. All of the other interesting visitors mentioned above were also in that general vicinity. Also lots of ducks including Blue Wing/Green Wing/Cinnamon Teal, Gadwall, Northern Shoveler, etc. . Also worthy of note are the Avocet. On each visit in recent weeks I've counted 19 - 21 including some on nests (counted three nesting today). Yesterday there were three new hatch-lings being carefully guarded by the parents. Seven Eared Grebe were also present Two were performing their mating dance cross the water.
