Fittingly, the last day of what's been a warm and windy month was warm and
windy. We enjoyed about an hour of nice conditions this morning before the
south breeze picked up, and we had to close most of our nets by 9:00. Not
too many birds turned up as a result: 13 newly banded individuals, 1
recapture, and 6 total species.

The morning's highlight was another *Sharp-shinned Hawk*, a hatch-year
female that made for a nice contrast to last week's much smaller male.
Otherwise, we noted a decent number of Hermit Thrushes, Kinglets, and
Yellow-rumped Warblers around, but most of them were among the tall
cottonwoods on the more-protected north side of the banding station area
where we don't have nets set up. Here's hoping they'll turn up among the
nets tomorrow.

Another interesting capture was a male Ruby-crowned Kinglet with
yellow-orange crown feathers rather than the typical scarlet/ruby color.
This is a relatively rare color variation found in under 10% of male
kinglets!

Today's summary:

Wilson's Warbler 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 6
Hermit Thrush 2
Gray Catbird 1 + 1 recapture
Spotted Towhee 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1

We are open 6 days a week, closed on Sundays. Tomorrow we'll be operating
nets from 6:50–11:50 AM on Monday, and from 7:00 AM––Noon the remaining
days––weather permitting. Come visit!
