White-winged Scoter (*Douglas/Jefferson)
Long-tailed Duck continues to be seen in multiple counties. You can search with 
eBird’s “Explorer” menu in your preferred county for any recent sightings.

Great Black-backed Gull (Pueblo)
Pacific Loon (*Douglas/Jefferson)
SNOWY OWL (Logan)
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Boulder, Jefferson, Garfield, *Larimer)

ADAMS COUNTY:
—On Dec 21 a Trumpeter Swan was reported at Barr Lake.  First reported by Ray 
Graham on Dec 19.

BOULDER COUNTY:
—On Dec 22 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported In pines along Old Tale Road 
south of Arapahoe, about halfway to McSorley Lane.  First reported by Nathan 
Pieplow on Dec 15.

DENVER COUNTY:
—On Dec 19 a Black-and-white Warbler was reported at Bluff Lake by Virginia 
Dickinson.

DOUGLAS /JEFFERSON COUNTIES (CHATFIELD SP RESERVOIR):
—On Dec 24 a White-winged Scoter was reported at Chatfield SP Marina Sandspit; 
preciously seen from the N Boat Ramp and  Handicapped Fisherman’s Platform.  
First reported by Joey Keller on Nov 29
—On Dec 24 a Red-necked Grebe was reported at Chatfield SP N Boat Ramp area; 
previously seen from the Handicapped Fisherman’s Platform. First reported by Al 
Guarente on Dec 21.
—On Dec 24 a Pacific Loon was reported at Chatfield SP N Boat Ramp area; 
previously reported from the Handicapped Fisherman’s Platform. First reported 
by Joey Kellner on Dec 8.

FREMONT COUNTY:
—On Dec 22 a PACIFIC WREN was reported on Riverwalk Bluff Trail west of 
Raynolds near bench on left side of trail.  First reported by Brandon Percival 
on Dec 21.

GARFIELD COUNTY:
—On Dec 21 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported in Carbondale by Sue Riffe.
—On Dec 21 4 Rusty Blackbirds were reported in Carbondale by Jason Gregg.

JEFFERSON COUNTY:
—On Dec 23 a PACIFIC WREN was reported at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood.  It 
was observed along Bear Creek WSW of Whitetail Picnic area, where trail from 
parking lot meets creek.  First reported by Chris Wood on Dec 22. This is a 
first County Record for this species.  Note, this location requires a fee via 
Daily or Annual Pass (Not covered by State Park Pass).
—On Dec 23 a BRANT was reported at Lake Arbor;  later in the afternoon Jessi 
Oberbeck relocated it at Indian Tree Golf Course behind the Sprouts shopping 
center, the same location it had been seen a few years ago . First reported by 
Amy Cervene on Dec 20.
—On Dec 22 a male Varied Thrush was seen at a private home near Carmody Park in 
Lakewood. For details, please see the note Joe Roller posted Dec 14 on COBirds. 
Visitors are welcome, with some reasonable guidelines from the homeowner.
—On Dec 20 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported in the Beverly Heights 
Neighborhood by August Hazel.
—On Dec 20 a Pacific Loon was reported on Standly Lake on north shore by Myron 
Gerhard.

LAS ANIMAS COUNTY:
—On Dec 20 a Tundra Swan was reported at Trinidad Res by Tony Godfrey.

LARIMER COUNTY:
—On Dec 24 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported in Fort Collins at Grandview 
Cemetery.  This appears to be a young male and hence would be a different bird 
than the adult reported on Dec 22.  It was in an American Elm near the Trolley 
House on Mountain Avenue just east of the cemetery entrance.  First reported by 
Dave Leatherman on Dec 23.
—On Dec 22 a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported in Fort Collins from the NW 
corner of the golf course just south of Grandview Cemetery (just east of the 
big gray winter portapoty). It flew into the giant cottonwood just to the east. 
 This appears to be the same tree where the bird was reported by Fawn Simonds 
on FC CBC, Dec 14.
Probably the same adult male seen in the cemetery in November.
—On Dec 18 a Gyrfalcon was observed near the Larimer County Landfill in SW Fort 
Collins. First reported by Robert Beauchamp on Nov 3. This is the same location 
a Gyrfalcon spent much of last winter.  Please post updates to COBirds.

LOGAN COUNTY:
—On Dec 23 a SNOWY OWL was reported at North Sterling State Park by CO Parks & 
Wildlife.  There was a SNOWY OWL found in the same park by Kathy Mihm Dunning 
in 2011.  Pictures indicate the current owl sighting appears to be near the 
same location as the one in 2011.
—On Dec 21 a Trumpeter Swan was reported at Jumbo Reservoir by Glenn Walbek.
 
PUEBLO COUNTY:
—A Great Black-backed Gull that has spent the last umpteen winters at Lake 
Pueblo (nicknamed “Murray”) is here again.  See COBirds for most recent 
sighting.
 
It's Christmas Bird Count time across Colorado, between Dec 14 & Jan 5.
