I have known Joe for about 40 years. We met at the Marston Christmas Count, and we both kept coming back to Marston for the Christmas count because we both thought it was absolutely one of the best Denver Counts. Each year, Joe would ask if he could stop by to see my Morning Doves, now around 28 individuals in Jan. Some years the doves did not show up in high numbers for the Marston count, but Joe could get them Jan 1st.
We knew each other from Denver Field Ornithologists. I was on the board for several years. Joe was so nice in bringing ,'See's Lollipops' to the Board meetings. The LATTER is really why I went to the Board meetings. I never told Joe this. But the event I will never forget was the summer of 2015. I had a really bad accident and ended up in the hospital. One day a beautiful flower arrangement was brought to my room. I MEAN a BEAUTIFUL LARGE arrangement of flowers like I had never seen . I asked the lady in the room who it was from. The card said , from your friends at DFO, and Joe Roller. WOW, that card meant so much and I thank you Joe and DFO for that lovely flower arrangement.
