Hi all, We were able to conduct the Pueblo Christmas Bird Count today, with 18 observers. I'm not sure of the species total, though I believe it is at least 96 species. One of the bodies of water was dry, one we didn't get into, three others had quite a bit of ice, though we still did well with waterfowl. Mountain birds were wandering out to the eastern part of Pueblo, and we found them on this year's Pueblo CBC. Good numbers of Mountain Chickadees and a few Woodhouse's Scrub-Jays were seen by several groups. We had a few new birds for this long running Christmas Bird Count, a staked out *Juniper Titmouse *(present for a while) and a stakeout female *Williamson's Sapsucker *(first found last week). Two other new birds for the count, one *Bonaparte's Gull* was overdo probably, the other new bird for the count, is a 2nd Colorado CBC record (well photographed, at private property), a *WOOD THRUSH*. This is the 1st winter sighting for the Pueblo Area as well. The Denver CBC had one many years ago. As soon as I can get all the results, they will be on the CBC Website. A few other birds I heard about of note: Snow and Ross's Geese, Barrow's Goldeneye, Greater Scaup, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Hermit Thrush, Swamp and Lincoln's Sparrows, Lesser Goldfinch, 3 Say's Phoebes at least, also a count week Lesser Black-backed Gull (I don't think one was found today). A big thanks to the people who were able to come and help today, some from far away (El Paso/Teller Counties). I didn't see any other birders today, except for uncle Van, who I birded with some. We normally meet mid-day at Subway, though not this year.
