April 22 is Earth Day. Today more than ever, we humans must stand together to
counter the negative impacts of human population growth on our planet. As
birders, we are already somewhat aware of conservation issues. Please consider
what you can change in your present lifestyle to improve our planet, and
resolve to do this. Just like a New Year’s resolution.

And what better day than Earth Day to resolve to join CFO in conserving
grassland birds! If you haven’t yet signed up for the Colorado Birding
Challenge on May 8, you can register on our website at Cobirds.org/CFO/COBC.
There are several ways to participate. You can
1. Register a competitive team in your county of choice
2. Register a non-competing team
3. Join an existing team that has open seats
4. Collect donations and pledges for your team
5. Make a donation or pledge for your favorite team

We are halfway to our goal of signing up 100 teams across the state and halfway
to our goal of participating in all 64 counties, with under three weeks to go
until May 8. Pledges are starting to roll in but we are still far from our
fundraising goal of $50,000.

Many bird species are already arriving as spring advances. I’ve been seeing
eBird checklists with more than 50 species of birds in just a couple hours of
observation. So you don’t need to dedicate the whole day on May 8 to the
Challenge. Even a couple of hours can have a large impact. Any checklist you
submit to eBird on May 8 will contribute to eBird’s Global Big Day and help
celebrate International Migratory Bird Day.

Many of you are already signed up for an annual spring bird count on May 8. You
can make the birds you see on your survey count towards the Colorado Birding
Challenge! Just register as a CoBC team and collect conservation pledges from
your friends, family, local businesses, etc.

Let’s act together to make big progress toward achieving these conservation
fundraising goals today, Earth Day. Do it for the birds we all love so much.
If you need assistance with registering or have other questions about the
Colorado Birding Challenge, please direct your question to c...@cobirds.org.
