Things slowed down quite a bit today, though we still had a good variety and a handful of new species for the season. We recaptured the Kentucky Warbler from yesterday just in time for a visiting birding group to see this skulker up close. Other highlights were an Alder Flycatcher, the 7th confirmed banding record (along with a number of Traill's that were probable ALFL). I'm pretty conservative on calling an Alder but the coloration and wing formula measurements put this one way into Alder territory. Also a Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay was just the 4th banding record (and first ever in spring) and we had our FOS Lazuli Bunting, a beautiful older male. 16 total birds of 12 species today;
House Wren - 2 Alder Flycatcher - 1 Lincoln's Sparrow - 3 MacGillivray's Warbler - 2 Lazuli Bunting - 1 'Mountain' White-crowned Sparrow - 1 Gray Catbird - 1 Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay - 1 Swainson's Thrush - 1 recap Bullock's Oriole - 1 recap Kentucky Warbler - 1 recap Wilson's Warbler - 1 recap We are open 3 days per week (Friday - Sunday) through May 30th. We'll also be open Thurs May 20th. Chico Basin Ranch is once again open to the public and visitors are welcome at the banding station, click here <https://ranchlands.com/day-visits/birding-wildlife-viewing/> for more details on visiting. We are opening nets at about 5:30am and continuing for 5 hours, depending on weather.
