To anyone who saw this post, the chances of it being a common rosefinch are 
virtually nil. It is very rare on Attu or St. Lawrence Island and I don't 
think ever reported in mainland Alaska. Saying it is small as a basis for 
id is useless as it is the same size as a house finch or Cassin's Finch. 
They look very similar to either of these species, especially to a non 
expert observer.
