Between late openings and closings due to cold weather, Bird Conservancy's annual fundraising event and other craziness during the 8th week of our 9 week season, I got behind on reporting!
No change in the scarcity of birds this season - the total new birds for the last 3 days was just 29. The 2 most interesting birds were both caught today. We had a Field Sparrow, the 6th in the last 15 years, and our 2nd Northern Flicker Intergrade for the season. Unlike the Intergrade we had earlier in the season, which had just a few red feathers on its nape, this one looked pretty much just like the drawing of an adult male Intergrade in Sibley's. Here is the breakdown for the last 3 days: Friday, October 15: Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 2 Song Sparrow 1 White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 5 Saturday, October 16: Swainson's Thrush 1 Song Sparrow 3 Lincoln's Sparrow 1 White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 3 Dark-eyed Junco, Oregon 3, unidentified 1 (somewhere between Oregon and Pink-sided) Sunday, October 17: Flicker Intergrade 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 2, Audubon's 2 Field Sparrow 1 Chipping Sparrow 1 Song Sparrow 1 White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 1 Closed tomorrow (Monday), then open the next 5 days (we will take the station down at the end of banding on Saturday, 10/23). Click here <https://birdconservancy.doubleknot.com/event/calendar/4525> to register to visit - we are offering one-hour slots (up to 12 visitors at a time); 8:30-9:30 weekdays, and 8-9, 9-10, and 10-11 on Saturday. Between new and recaps, there is usually something interesting to see, so come visit us this final week!
