Except for the wind, opening day of spring banding was very normal, which
was excellent after the very low numbers of birds caught both spring
(Chatfield) and fall (Barr) in 2021. The wind, which kicked up about 9:15
and required the closure of over half the nets, probably kept it from being
a banner early spring day. Banded 13 new and caught 3 that were banded
last year. New birds included a White-throated Sparrow, only the second
caught at the station (the other one was caught last year). Here's the
breakdown:

Black-capped Chickadee 1 new, 1 banded 2020
House Wren 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon's 2
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Myrtle 1
Spotted Towhee 1 new, 1 banded 2020
Song Sparrow 1 banded 2020
Lincoln's Sparrow 3
White-throated Sparrow 1
White-crowned Sparrow, Gambel's 3

We are open 6 mornings per week, closed on Mondays. Registration is
required to visit on the weekends - there are three 1 hour sessions,
starting at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30. Go here
<https://denveraudubon.org/events/> to register. There are school groups
every week day, arriving about 9:30. Individuals may drop by early
mornings during the week although there are groups visiting early on some
days.
