Ron, Red-bellied Woodpeckers nest along the eastern border of Colorado. They can be found in reasonable numbers in the NE (Tamarack Ranch), E (Bonny Res), and the SE (Lamar and other places). See the concentrations in these areas on the ebird map at https://ebird.org/species/rebwoo
No-one has seen a male bird in the Walden Ponds area this winter (as far as I am aware), so I think it's a bit early to presume the female is nesting there. Cheers, Peter Gent. Boulder, CO.
