While out yesterday (Weds., 26 Apr.'23) scouting for a field trip this weekend, we found a singing male NORTHERN PARULA and a continuing pair of EASTEN PHEOBEs along the Highline Canal at Platte Canyon Reservoir (Douglas Co.) near Waterton. The Parula has apparently been there for a couple of days, so may be repeatable but better hurry if you'd like to chase. The Pheobes have nested at this location in the past, so very likely repeatable. There was also apparently a Townsend's Warbler at this spot yesterday, so worth a check.
We had another EASTERN PHEOBE at Waterton (Jefferson Co.) upstream from the bridge also at a historic nesting site, so will be repeatable as well. In addition, there is a GREAT HORNED OWL nest with a couple of adorable downy chicks along this stretch. Before starting our walk upstream, we were treated to a nice PEREGRINE FALCON zipping through at the Waterton parking lot. So migration is definitely picking up some steam.
