Hey, all.

I'm writing to let folks know that there are a few spots remaining for a
weekend of activities, hosted by the American Birding Association, here in
the Denver metro area this coming *Sat. & Sun., Aug. 5 & 6.*

The activities, including field trips and workshops, are *FREE to all, but
RSVP REQUIRED.* No experience necessary; all are welcome; children,
families, and curiosity-seekers especially so. Please sign up online by
pressing the big green BOOK NOW button here:

https://www.aba.org/aba-community-weekend-in-denver/

Note that the events are *à la carte*, and that the cost of each event is
$0. But you do have to register!

Full details are at the ABA website (see above), but here are the extreme
basics:

Sat. morning, Aug. 5, Greenlee Wildlife Preserve & environs, Lafayette,
Boulder Co. We'll look for hummingbirds, soras, catbirds, bushtits, lesser
goldfinches, and more. Catch the Swainson hawks before they migrate to
Argentina, and catch the cordilleran flycatchers before they get downgraded
to western flycatchers. ;-)

Sat. afternoon, Aug. 5, TBD. Depending on the weather, we'll either go
butterflying and dragonflying (if it's sunny and hot) or dippering (looking
for American dippers, with our clothes on, if it's cool and wet). Wherever
it is, it will be a short drive, by carpool, from Greenlee Wildlife
Preserve.

Sun. morning, Aug. 6, Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge,
Adams Co., immediately north of the Denver city limits. A wonderful time of
the year, with ducks, egrets, shorebirds, pelicans, and more; we'll look
for Mississippi kites; we have good chances for specialities like lark
bunting, sage thrasher, and burrowing owl; and bison sightings are likely.

Sun. afternoon, Aug. 6., indoor workshops at The Arsenal. *Dina Baker* on
birding and gardening for native plants; *Crystal Reser* on mindful
birding. These workshops are led by experts with Audubon Master Birders
with Denver Audubon, and they are conveniently held in the Pat Schroeder
Visitor Center at the Arsenal, so that you can seamlessly transition from
the morning's birding to the afternoon's indoor activities.

Field trip leaders are biology professor *Christy Carello* and Wild Birds
Unlimited store manager *Kyle Carlsen *(Christy served for many years on
the BOD of Colo. Field Ornithologists, and Kyle currently serves on the
BOD); *Hannah Floyd* and *Drew Bender,* college undergraduates majoring in
the biological sciences (both gave very well received presentations at the
recent WFO–CFO conference); *LeAnn Pilger,* the American Birding
Association's long-time Membership Coordinator (ask LeAnn anything about
the ABA...anything!); and Yours Truly. And a huge shoutout & thank you
to *Diane
Hutton* and her team at Denver Audubon for logistical support!

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend! And, remember, RSVP REQ'D for
these free outings and workshops!

Ted Floyd
Lafayette, Boulder Co.
