Muli-Tiered Applications:-

The proliferation of internet- and intranet-based applications has created a
great need for distributed transactional applications that leverage the
speed, security, and reliability of server-side technology. One way to meet
this need is to use a multitiered model where a thin-client application
invokes business logic that executes on the server.

Normally, thin-client multitiered applications are hard to write because
they involve many lines of intricate code to handle transaction and state
management, multithreading, resource pooling, and other complex low-level
details. And to compound the difficulties, you have to rework this code
every time you write an application because the code is so low-level it is
not reusable.

Multi- Layered Applications:-
Today, multi-layering technology is now viable for a range of embedded
applications, as a result of the following innovations:

Lower cost multi-layering hardware, which reduces the overall CPU speed and
memory footprint required to create multi-layered displays.
New API technology that allows developers to quickly and cost-effectively
build multi-layered displays with a mix of legacy and new applications, and
port these between a range of hardware platforms. Applications do not need
to be layers-aware, which translates to less work and reduced time to
market.
