hi all, While searching the internet , i found at least prominent ways by which
people are accessing contents of Excel files. I am using ASP.net / C#. I wrote (
pasted from the internet net mostly ) code for three alternatives A)
using Automation --------------------- My comments :- Slow , Excel
should be installed on my app server (?) B) ODBC
---------- Can be run on machines which does not have excel application .
Good. C) using OleDb Provider. ( Jet engine )
----------------------------------------- This method seems to be the most
comfortable to code, executes fast etc. Anybody there who has retrieved Excel files
programmatically from ASP.net ? Which method seems to be the most robust ? ( i prefer
the third one ). When i searched some virgin ( without .NET run time and Office app
) machines,i found JET oledb provider in all the machines. Our users will use only
latest version of the office suite. Asking them to save spreadsheat in excel 97 or
2000 is not going to work. Will OleDb provider for excel will isolate us from version
changes ? (not thru service packs ). Is jet oledb provider a redistributable with
every version of win2k or winxp ?
Praseed Pai.
