just a thought - older ( not normally as young as 8 years ) dogs can develop small skin problems or such that while basically healthy make it a bit painful to be touched ( petted )

I Have a cocker that way from about 8 years old - she is 14 now. when on medications she can be touched and is the happiest thing - without the meds she wants to be with you but not touched.

just a thought

Subject: [cockapoo] NEED INFO

I am new to this group as my cockapoo of 15 years just passed away and
we are looking into a new puppy but I need to know if others have had
the same history as we have with our cockapoo. He was extremly healthy
and listened great but after about 8 years old, he didnt want to be
petted, but yet always wanted to be by you and was happy and all, but
just not pettable, he would always growl if you petted him or picked
him up, yet was your best friend, just dont touch ME!!!!. I always
think it was because at that age is when we had children.  We had the
dog first, then kids. I dont want to get another cockapoo if they are
going to be the same as this one.  He was a great dog though, except
for this. Please help if this was a fluke. My wifes first dog was a
cockapoo and did the same thing. Any ideas?? Thanks, its amazing how
much you miss them even when they are senoir dogs and sleep about 18
hours a day!
