Since you already have had a crate trained dog why would you not want to
train the new puppy to a crate. Remember dogs are den animals and their crate is
safe zone for them. It is like having their own room. Plus it would not be safe
to leave a teething puppy alone all day while you are at work to get into
trouble and possible eat something that was harmful or deadly. It is less
stressful on the dog when they go to the groomer or vet and will need to be
crated. A dog that doesn't know about or understand being crated will get very
upset when the crate must be used. I think of it as if you went to your basement
to do a load of wash and left your toddler playing, not in a playpen. The baby
could climb on something, fall, get into God only knows what while you went to
toss the cloths into the machine. Most puppies are very curious and get into the
strangest things. JMHO. I wouldn't have a dog of any size that was not
familiar with a crate.
