2 years ago this coming July, my hubby and I accidently stumbled upon
a (then 1yr. old) Cockapoo at an adoption day at Petsmart. He was so
totally traumatized I seriously wondered if he would be adoptable. His
history is gut wrenching to say the least. Original owner had him and
his Cocker mom in an outdoor pen. She died and 4 days later a neighbor
called the pound re: the two dogs in the pen. Bailey was discovered to
have full blown heartworm and had to go through the treatment. The two
were taken into foster care by Partners for Pets in S. Illinois. They
were adopted out together. They apparently were abused as Baily has
what the vet feels are some irregularly healed ribs. They escaped
together from that adoption. For 8 months they were running loose in
S. Illinois and when they were finally captured and checked for a
chip, they were returned to Partners for Pets again. Poor Bailey was
so traumatized, matted infested and had burn scabs on his nose etc. He
would not come out from under the bed at his foster moms.

I raised Labradors for 30+ yrs. and so I just feel a kindred spirit
with most dogs. This little guy stood with his paws up on my thighs
and looked up at me with a plea in his eyes, and we had no choice in
the matter. I am so glad. It took more patience than I ever needed
before training dogs, but he is such a jewel that as far as I am
concerned, he was custom created just for me. There is no amount of
money that I could call his true value.
I spent a lot of time teaching him how to play, and socializing him.
He is great with other dogs and walks at a heal. He is very cuddly and
extremely well behaved.
I know this may sound as if I am saying I have the best dog in the
world, but considering what he has come through, he amazes me. So the
long and short of it is that he is good for me and I for him.
