depends  on if you're home 24/7 with the pups etc. and catching them 
in the act.  


Did I say it happened overnight?   Here is how I taught them when  they would 
have a treat in their mouth as a pup I would take it out while saying  drop 
it and as soon as they would release it, I would praise them, look over the  
treat and give it back telling them good boy or girl.  Consistently doing  this 
they caught on and now they will spit when I say drop it.  I would do  it 
several times a day, when they were outside and grabbed something they  
shouldn't 
have, would do the same only they would not get it back and I would  give them 
a treat in return, now they drop and leave it, or if I say no they  won't 
pick it up.
