If you want to know why you crashed, look at the backtrace. That's the one and only definitive source of this information. Poking and prodding will give you some information, but cannot answer the question "Why did my app just crash?"
If you are unfamiliar with using the debugger, I suggest you read the Xcode debugging documentation. It will save you infinite wasted time spent blindly guessing.
