Because the stringWithCString:... methods expect C strings (i.e. NUL-terminated strings). Instead, use: NSString * base64String = [[[NSString alloc] initWithBytes: base64Pointer length: base64Length encoding: NSASCIIStringEncoding] autorelease]; -- Clark S.
