From what I can tell from the HIG, iPhone apps are only ever meant to be 
terminated by the user pressing the Home button. This is in line with the 
paradigm of applications being seen as "always on" services that can be 
returned to in the same state that they were left in.

If your users tend to start by browsing data, then that is as good as state as 
any to leave the app in, displaying something like a table view. So, what is 
wrong with just returning to the browsing view?
