There's a warning on ScanController's -init: "control reaches end of non-void
function".
-(id) init
{
// scanner is automatically set up once it's found.
[NSBundle loadNibNamed:@"ScannerControl" owner:self];
}
IOW, you forgot to return self. Or to call [super init].
