You say repeatedly that you are looking for the method -motionEnded:, period.
There is no such method in the API. There is a -motionEnded:withEvent:. Did you
try that?
Going through the Motion Events chapter of Event Handling Guide for iPhone OS,
I see sample code for the responder, which includes returning YES from
-canBecomeFirstResponder. Do you do this?
UIAccelerometer, according to that chapter, doesn't have anything to do with
recognizing a shake gesture.
