There may be an HITheme API for that. Looks like HIThemeTrackDrawInfo, kThemeIndeterminateBarLarge, and HIThemeDrawTrack() could do it. Though part of Carbon.framework, these API are pretty new (10.3) and are not deprecated and are available in 64 bit. I use them in a custom NSControl/NSCell to draw a slider with two thumbs.
