Just to add another two cents on the unreliability of pings for determining reachability, if you are using the wi-fi service in certain airports, cafes, etc. some wi-fi providers will respond to a ping of anything, so it will appear you can reach any host, when in fact you can't reach anything except the providers home page until you authenticate. _______________________________________________
