Also, I agree with Roland that 50 seconds is a suspiciously long time for the WebView to take to lay out 2MB of HTML, especially blocking the main thread. There’s probably something about your HTML that’s making the layout process very difficult. Ordinarily WebKit should be able to layout and render incrementally. Instruments may not help much with diagnosing this unless you can interpret all of the C++ method names inside of WebCore for clues about what it’s working on. (You didn’t put all of your results into a <table>, did you?
