Well,

I find your code to be a bit confusing, but I’d say that both of those are 
wrong. I think that what you need is:

  unsigned char* databuffer = (unsigned char*)malloc(datasize);
  [datastream getBytes:databuffer range:NSMakeRange(positionCounter, 
datasize)]; // Packet content
