Just override NSView - (NSSize)intrinsicContentSize.
You can also override -fittingSize to give a minimal size.

Sure. just call your views -invalidateIntrinsicContentSize. 
AutoLayout will do its think and call -intrinsicContentSize as part of its 
layout.
