It turns out to be trivially easy to reproduce this in a demo app. It’s not just my app.
• Create a boilerplate document-based OS X Cocoa app in Xcode. • Launch the demo app. • Create a document. • Move the document into iCloud Drive. • Double-click the document. The demo app will launch, but instead of a document window appearing, you get several sandbox burps in the system console. It works fine if the document is moved out of iCloud Drive, or if you use File > Open instead of Finder to open it.
