 I don't get a sound when I do that in any of my apps or a system open panel. 
Can you give more information on what sound you mean?

 Also, is this a Kiosk setup where you want to turn off certain sounds (and can 
afford to permanently modify things) or is this a regular app that normal users 
would launch and quit on their personal machines? If the former, I'd say you 
could set the alert sound volume to 0 or change it to a sound that is just 
silence.

 If the latter, why do you want to do this? If every other app exhibits a 
certain behaviour, it is (in general, at least) a bad idea to change the 
behaviour for your application. It will feel out of place to the users (and 
you'd be surprised what little sounds e.g. users with impaired vision (i.e. not 
blind, but close) rely on to "see" things that are too small for their eyes.
