We could have a built-in links view if one isn't defined in the sitemap.

Well there you go: yet another reason for _not_ hardcoding the link
extraction just before the serializer :)  By making the links view
explicit in the sitemap, I can change:

  <map:view name="links" from-position="last">

to:

  <map:view name="links" from-position="content">

In the standard links view:

<map:view name="links" from-position="last">
  <map:serialize type="links"/>
</map:view>

All processing up to the serializer is shared, if caching works
optimally.

Did that thread have any discussion of the _value_ of link views, or what
would be lost by discarding them?
