I think this is fundamentally a VM/OS problem, although a bug in Cocoon could
trigger it.

I've had this happen when running the 'javadocs' target on a somewhat-loaded
box. At one stage, I resorted to keeping 'killall java' pre-typed on tty2 for
emergencies. I'm using Mandrake 8.0, 2.4.3 kernel, IBM 1.3 JDK on a pentium
3/600 w/ 128mb RAM.

I wonder if this counts as a bug in the 2.4 kernel. User-land processes
shouldn't be able to bring down a system like this ;P
