And, as Robert Frost would add "good fences make good neighbors". The corollary being that one should respect one's contracts. > A short story: when I first entered the Apache world, I was scared to > death by the *mythical* flame-rate on "new-httpd" (the list where the > Apache HTTPD project was born and was developpped), so much so that I > *never* ever wrote a single email on that list. Chuckle. When I first entered the Apache world, my first greeting was a flame by Stefano as I desired at the time to make Tomcat 3.0 better. My sin? I also happen to accept monetary compensation from IBM. > I owe everything I am to the friends that helped me during my Apache > journey: Federico Barbieri, Pierpaolo Fumagalli, Fabrizio Rovelli, Jon > Stevens, Brian Behlendorf, James Davidson, Donald Ball, Ricardo Rocha, > Giacomo Pati, Roy Fielding, Sam Ruby, and thousands of others. Hey! How'd my name get in there? <grin> - - - - - - Relative to Cocoon, I wrote the PHP side code that allows PHP to be run as a servlet. And the Cocoon side code that allows this servlet to be used as a generator. If you want to see some bio on me, here's some links with pictures: http://www.activestate.com/Corporate/People/Tech_Board.html#sam http://www.zend.com/zend/hof/sam.php Relative to Apache, my passion at the moment is to see if there is any way to bootstrap these isolated subproject communities into a larger community. I'm chair of Jakarta, and a member of the XML PMC. The most tangible realization of my efforts is http://jakarta.apache.org/gump/ . I'm making progress on getting subprojects to respect their contracts, but I still see three jars in cocoon's cvs with dates instead of release numbers on them. Sigh. I also spend a good amount of time thinking about web services, including coding and trying to bootstrap a community for this here at ApacheLand. I see web services as a platform and language independent component architecture. - Sam Ruby --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
