Cannot agree more.

I will start emailing privately the people who doesn't follow basic and
simple rules about:

1) starting your quote *BELOW* the text.

2) remove text that is not useful in the particular context.

3) making sure your mailer gives context. Please, see a few lines above:

Please, do this exercise: go to groups.google.com and search for
something (your name, for example) and try to follow up there.

Then imagine something like "history.apache.org" 20 years from now and
judge your commits on *THAT* vision of your son searching this archive
for your past work on this project.

But it might not be your son, but your boss, your new employer, your new
employee, your new colleague or new customer.

It is about your ideas. It is about you to make it easier for people to
understand you.
